Democrats were Against Open Borders, Until They were for Them

Democrats used to care about limiting immigration before they embraced open borders

Poverty, unemployment and the environment used to be top priorities for Democrats. We depended upon Democrats to protect workers from unfair labor practices and minimize wealth disparities. Recognizing the impact of immigration numbers on all these goals, Democratic leadership once called for strict enforcement and meaningful reductions.

Here are several prominent examples:

President Bill Clinton said during his 1995 State of the Union address: “All Americans … are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public services they use impose burdens on taxpayers. That’s why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders … cracking down on illegal hiring, [and] by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens.”

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid wrote in a 1995 Los Angeles Times column touting his bill to double border patrol, accelerate deportation and slash legal immigration: “Taxpayers simply cannot continue to sustain new populations the size of San Diego or the state of Nevada every year.”

Barbara Jordan, a former U.S. representative, civil rights icon, and chair of Clinton’s U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform, said during 1994 testimony before Congress: “As a nation of immigrants committed to the rule of law, this country must set limits on who can enter and back up these limits with effective enforcement of our immigration law. … As far as immigration policy is concerned, credibility can be measured by a simple yardstick: people who should get in, get in; people who should not enter are kept out; and people who are deportable should be required to leave.”

Robert Reich, who served as secretary of labor under Clinton, said in a 2004 article: “The only reason any job remains unfilled is because the wage is too low. Require it to be filled with an American and employers have to raise the wage. But if they can get legal guest workers, they won’t.”

Paul Krugman, a Nobel laureate, economist and New York Times columnist, wrote in a 2006 column: “It is intellectually dishonest to say, as President Bush does, that ‘immigrants do jobs Americans won’t do.’ The willingness of Americans to do a job depends on how much that job pays, and the reason some jobs pay too little to attract Americans is competition from poorly paid immigrants.”

Krugman wrote in a 2010 blog post: “Open immigration can’t coexist with a strong social safety net; if you’re going to assure health care and a decent income to everyone, you can’t make that offer global.”

Gaylord Nelson, a former U.S. senator and founder of Earth Day, said in a 2001 interview: “It’s phony to say, ‘I’m for the environment, but not for limiting immigration.’”

The New York Times wrote in a 2000 editorial: “The primary problem with amnesties is that they beget more illegal immigration.”

Congress has created multiple blue ribbon commissions of experts to study immigration and refugee policy, wisely removing this hugely contentious issue from the political arena where powerful lobbies have driven legislation and political narrative: President Clinton’s U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform, the U.S. Commission on Agriculture, the Select Commission on Immigration and Refugee Policy — to name a few. All of these commissions offered the same recommendations: reduce legal immigration, enforce immigration laws, and beware of the unintended consequences of guest worker programs.

Over the last two decades, Democrats largely ignored the experts they chose to consult.

Instead, they did a U-turn on immigration, embracing the open borders, multiple amnesties, free trade, global agenda of billionaire donors. Democrats simply aren’t the same party they used to be.

A friendly press has provided cover for years by avoiding uncomfortable data about immigration, regarding labor impacts, taxpayer costs. Instead, the public was given a steady diet of happy-talk personal stories, shallow slogans and unsubstantiated claims from self-interested players who profit from the new agenda. And virtually no coverage of congressional commissions and the betrayal of American workers.

Donald Trump’s win is a wake up call. Will Democrats recommit to their traditional priorities and a truly inclusive platform? Right now, the pleasure of feeling morally superior to Trump is intoxicating. Let’s hope they can get beyond it.

Bob Whitaker, Author of the Racist “Mantra” on White Genocide, Has Died
June 07, 2017
By Ryan Lenz
SPLC

Bob Whitaker, a curmudgeonly segregationist who penned a 221-word racist “Mantra” that became a rallying cry for racists the world over, has died.

Bob Whitaker

Whitaker, 76, died in his sleep on Saturday, his website announced yesterday.

“His passing is going to leave a hole in so many people’s life [sic]. But he has given the world the tools we need to expose this anti-White system and it’s [sic] program of white genocide. We will keep on using what he has taught us,” the announcement on Whitaker’s website read.

Whitaker’s fame on the radical right stems almost exclusively from his “Mantra,” a blunt attack on multiculturalism that blames immigration for a “genocide” facing white people. Such a notion has inspired racists to hang the final words of the mantra –– “Anti-racist is code word for anti-white” –– from Interstate overpasses and has even motivated some to commit heinous acts of violence, including the 2011 terrorist attacks in Norway that left 77 people dead.

But in life, Whitaker claimed to have been much more than a racist writer and managed to build a vocal and devout following. To his disciples, in fact, Whitaker was nothing short of a propaganda “genius,” a word that could be found more than 600 times on his blog.

“There is not a modest bone in my body,” Whitaker wrote in 2004. “I AM a genius. I was born with one hell of a brain, and I scare our enemies because I am so smart I can laugh them to shame. I am at so high a level that a PhD or a big-time news anchor doesn’t mean a thing to me.”

A far-right propagandist for more than a half-century, the former economics professor and Reagan appointee to the Office of Personnel Management was linked to radical, often racist, populist campaigns for most of his career. He once claimed to have had a swastika poster on his wall when he was young to protest desegregation. In fact, his advocacy of segregation and racist ideology seems rooted in his opposition to America’s early civil rights struggles.

According to Whitaker’s followers, he’s a former clandestine CIA agent and mercenary in Rhodesia who helped craft the propaganda message that ended the Soviet Union — claims for which there is no known historical record.

The Mantra first appeared in 2006 on Whitaker’s blog and on the internet forum for National Vanguard, a breakaway group from the neo-Nazi National Alliance. Unlike David Lane’s succinct “14 words” (We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children), the Mantra reads like a rambling tirade on U.S. immigration policy.

All the same, his many followers quickly voiced their sorrow with word of his passing on racist Internet forums such as Stormfront.

“Perhaps his most important, and most lasting, legacy is that his incessant promotion of the term ‘anti-white’ is now slowly but surely going mainstream,” a commentator using the name “Bellatrix” said on Stormfront. “A very important corner to turn indeed, as it is the rebuttal of the accusation of racist."

In recent years, Whitaker attempted to ride the fame that found him late in life toward political fortune. In 2015, he joined the American Freedom Party (AFP) ticket as the party’s candidate for vice president. “I’m running for vice president because I know a lot about vice,” Whitaker said in an audio interview about his candidacy posted online.

While his candidacy excited the radical right, it paled in comparison to then candidate Donald Trump’s electoral efforts. In April, Whitaker resigned from the ticket after conflict erupted over William Johnson, AFP’s chairman, and his efforts to aid the Trump campaign rather than support his own party’s candidate.

Johnson spent thousands to generate robocalls ahead of state primaries across the United States that supported Trump, not his own party’s candidate, Whitaker.

Afternoon update.

I wanted go at the noon hour, but work pushed it back until after 2 o’clock.

– The bad news is that he doesn’t recognize me

– The good news is that he expressed that he doesn’t recognize me by saying no, though it wasn’t very loud, and shaking is head

– The better news is that the nurses told me that his mother and uncle were in to visit a few hours ago, and he did recognize them with both words and facial expressions. That would seem to make sense because he’s known them all his life but me for only 6 years. I guess it makes sense that if you lose memories, the ones you’ll get back first are the ones that are implanted the deepest.

– The nurses are also telling me that he asked for water, even though he can’t drink it out of a cup yet, it has to be given through one of those dentist type power straws.

I’ll make another visit this evening.

Communist New York City Mayor Bill de Blah, Blah, Blah: No Normal Whites Need Apply for Cultural Jobs

NYToday: “De Blasio, With ‘Cultural Plan,’ Proposes Linking Money to Diversity”

If you're interesting in any type of job in the “arts” in NYC - even just as a back-office staffer - but are guilty of being white, you might as well pack your bags: you'll never be employed in this city again.

“Asked to explain the city’s new, tougher stance on diversity, Mr. Finkelpearl said in an email on Wednesday: ‘Today’s announcement requiring diversity reporting from city-funded groups is the next step, building on everything we’ve learned to date to work toward a cultural sector that is fairer, more equitable and looks like the city it serves.”

Murder in Minneapolis? City’s First Somali Muslim Police Officer Shoots and Kills White Australian Woman

By An Anonymous Reader

Took some time for the East Coast news outlets to reveal the cop's name, then his ethnic identity, then the fact that he was “famous” and “lauded” for being the “first Somali (Muslim) police officer on the Minneapolis force.”

Another AA hire whose likely most important qualification for admission to the force was his skin color: not his intelligence, judgement, and fitness for police work.

In the same way that the physical fitness requirements heretofore in place for DECADES for anyone hoping to make it as a fireman in this nation were (and continue to be) progressively “softened,” so that overweight, overage, out-of-shape black, Latino and Asian lesbians can achieve their dream, the exact same thing has obviously happened in police forces everywhere.

It'll take a bit for the full story here to be revealed - as there are almost certainly forces being arrayed to help this guy dodge any culpability for this crime - but “the truth will out,” as it almost always does.

Who's to say that with the uniform cameras of both officers turned off for some reason, that this wasn't an ideal, opportune time for Mohamed to perhaps follow this religion's dictates and “settle some scores”?

At Our Future Sucks.

How Delta Airlines Wrecked American Health Care

By Ann Coulter
July 19, 2017

I think I've found the core problem with health care in America. And guess what? It involves Delta Airlines!

A few weeks ago, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow was going on and on about a "single insurance provider" that pays for 49 percent of all births, as well as full health care costs of almost 40 percent of all children in the United States. This single "insurer," Maddow said, was the biggest "health insurance provider in the country by a mile."

Maddow was talking about Medicaid, which, of course, is not "insurance" but "welfare."

When we're allowed to call things whatever we want in order to win an argument, there is a total breakdown in democratic politics, fair commerce and social interaction.

Thus, for example, until we get our terms straight, Americans will be forced to keep paying through the nose whenever they try to buy actual health insurance -- because they aren't buying health insurance; they're paying for other people's welfare. Washington will never be able to make it legal to sell real health insurance -- because, if they try, the welfare recipients will mob congressional offices claiming that Republicans are murdering them.

There is no truth in any discussion of Obamacare. Currently, the most persistent lie is the claim that -- according to scoring by the CBO! -- 22 million Americans would "lose" their health insurance under the Senate health care bill. Turn on the TV right now and you'll hear someone saying this.

"A new (CBO) budget score said 22 million more Americans would lose health coverage under this plan ..."

-- Poppy Harlow, CNN, June 27, 2017

"A score from the Congressional Budget Office ... said the Republican bill to kill Obamacare would kick 22 million Americans off their health insurance."

-- Rachel Maddow, June 27, 2017

"The clock is ticking on the Senate health care bill as the CBO estimates 22 million people will lose their insurance."

-- Chris Hayes, June 26, 2017

HELLO? REPUBLICANS? ANY OF YOU GUYS WANT TO REBUT THAT? IT'S PRETTY EASY TO DO!

The actual CBO report says nothing of the sort. People citing the "22 million" figure didn't read past the CBO's headline-grabbing paragraph at the top of the "Summary" page.

In fact, the CBO merely estimates that -- in the year 2026 -- 22 million Americans who otherwise would have been forced by the Obamacare penalty to buy health insurance will choose not to buy insurance once the penalty is gone. By "people thrown off their health insurance," liberals mean: "people who voluntarily decide not to have health insurance." (More accurately, "people who choose not to prove to the government that they have health insurance.")

To use the word "lose" here is absurd. It would be like saying that Nixon ending the draft meant that 50,000 American men would "lose" their military service. The poor lads would be forced to volunteer.

Last year, I chose to end my New York Times subscription. I wasn't "thrown off" the Times' subscriber list. In full possession of the facts, I made an informed decision that I no longer wanted to receive the Times -- just as 22 million Americans (the CBO guesses) will make an informed decision in the year 2026 not to have health insurance, if given that option.

Redefining words like "insurance" and "lose" to mean whatever the speaker wants them to mean makes human conversation impossible. We can still grunt, howl and shiver when it's cold, but we will no longer have the ability to communicate slightly more complex thoughts to one another.

The only solution is for the rest of us to impose a broken windows policy on the truth, demanding it in every walk of life. If liars continually get away with it, their lies will only become more preposterous and more enraging.

Illegal aliens are not "undocumented immigrants." They're not "immigrants" at all. Immigrants wait in line and jump through hoops to be here. They are invited, by us, to come. Illegals cut to the head of the line whenever the mood strikes them, without waiting for an invitation.

When you have a "reserved seat" on Delta, it means you expect to be given that seat and not have your ticket snatched from your hand, then moved to a worse seat -- only to get abused on social media by an imperious corporation for talking about it on Twitter.

(Idea for new Delta motto: "If you like your seat, you can keep your seat!")

This is why the "Seinfeld" exchange with a car rental company struck such a chord. It was about the infuriating result when words like "reservation" have no meaning:

Jerry: I don't understand. I made a reservation. Do you have my reservation?

Rental car agent: Yes, we do. Unfortunately, we ran out of cars.

Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That's why you have the reservation.

Rental car agent: I know why we have reservations.

Jerry: I don't think you do. If you did, I'd have a car. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them.

If we're going to have any kind of civil society, we need to insist that words mean what they say.

"Health insurance": A group of people pooling their money every month, in the event that one of them ends up with an expensive medical problem.

"Wall": Wall.

"Republican": Does not raise taxes, propose amnesty or appoint David Hackett Souter to the Supreme Court.

"Seat 3A": The seat you were promised.

Unless the rest of us demand truth, the liars will be emboldened, their lies will snowball and nothing will ever work.

She was arrested shortly after trying to drop the already dead baby off at a local hospital, “for treatment.”

I'll post the story shortly, but the mom—22-year-old, Lovily Johnson, has been charged with murder.

WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — A 22-year-old Wyoming woman is in the Kent County jail in connection to the suspicious death of her child, police say. [Wyoming is 5.5 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.]

The Wyoming Department of Public Safety said it was advised the woman had taken her 6-month-old boy to the emergency room at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. The infant was dead on arrival, according to police.

Police believe the infant died in the 2600 block of McKee Avenue SW. His mother was arrested late Wednesday night, officers said.

Authorities have charged Lovily Johnson for counts of felony murder and first degree child abuse. Both charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

A court date for arraignment has not been set. [Prosecutor IDs Wyoming mom charged in death of baby boy, by Barton Deiters and 24 Hour News 8 web staff, WOOD.TV, July 20, 2017, 12:04 p.m.; updated: July 20, 2017, 6:05 p.m.]

The federal government has lent out nearly $2 billion over the past two decades to help dozens of historically black colleges and universities upgrade their campuses or refinance debt. Alma Adams (D., N.C.), who co-sponsored a bill this year requiring more reporting by the board and allowing the Education Department to provide financial counseling to schools that don't meet the loan program's requirements.

Schools On Hook For Each Other

Created by Congress in 1992, the Historically Black College and University Capital Financing Program encouraged the colleges to participate "as a coalition, as a collective, being willing to help other institutions," said Brian Johnson, who until last month was president of Tuskegee University.

The federal government has lent out nearly $2 billion over the past two decades to help dozens of historically black colleges and universities upgrade their campuses or refinance debt.

But only a fraction of the money has been repaid, oversight is limited and the lifeline promised to the schools, which have played a key role in educating African-Americans since the Civil War, has become more of an albatross for some.

Officials at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., are lobbying the Education Department to have their $40 million loan modified or forgiven, arguing that the funds it got through the Historically Black College and University Capital Financing Program in 2012 were secured with overly optimistic enrollment projections. Barber-Scotia College in Concord, N.C., defaulted on its loan in 2005 after it lost its accreditation.

[If officials at Stillman College are telling the truth now, it would mean that they and/or their predecessors committed massive fraud in 2012, and should be prosecuted and imprisoned. Forensic accounting must also determine whether any of them embezzled some or all of the money.]

And four schools ravaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, which in 2007 took out a combined $361 million in loans capped at 1% interest over 30 years, have paid back just roughly $12.4 million of it in the past decade and were granted a five-year forbearance period in 2013 when enrollment didn't rebound quickly.

"We've got to have much stricter underwriting requirements" to ensure that schools can handle the new debt, said Johnny C. Taylor Jr., president and chief executive of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, which represents publicly supported HBCUs, and a member of the loan program's federal advisory board.

The program has long faced high delinquency rates.

The Education Department's fiscal 2017 budget request shows that the program had a target delinquency rate of 14%. Its actual delinquency rate-reflecting payments that were between 11 and 59 days late -- was 19% in fiscal 2012, and 36% in fiscal 2013. The budget paper doesn't include more recent figures for that performance metric.

Donald Watson, director of the federal loan program for 10 years, said at a May 2015 advisory board meeting that there were schools on his "watch list" because of concerns about impending financial trouble, and others that he described as "habitual late payers." The board hasn't met since then.
"A lot of this has been left without the oversight that we've needed," said Rep. Alma Adams (D., N.C.), who co-sponsored a bill this year requiring more reporting by the board and allowing the Education Department to provide financial counseling to schools that don't meet the loan program's requirements. "The schools that participate should be constantly assessed to determine whether they're on track for repayment."

Stillman hadn't been making regular payments for at least a year and a half before President Cynthia Warrick took the helm on an interim basis in January.

Stillman used its loan funds in part to refinance a loan that was used to build a new football stadium; it gave up the sport in late 2015, eliminating ticket-sales revenue that could have helped cover debt payments.

A fundraising appeal this spring allowed Stillman to make its April loan payment, but Dr. Warrick said it would need to increase enrollment to at least 800, from its current 570, to afford another installment.

Dr. Warrick said she has been in regular contact with Education Department officials and is hopeful that the repayment plan will be adjusted.

"It's in the nation's best interest to either give us a deferral or, if they evaluate the entire program and all of these schools and what we do for the nation, that we should get a bailout just like the automobile industry and the banking industry," she said.

[“What we do for the nation”? They do nothing but suck money out of the pockets of hard-working, white taxpayers.]

Education Department spokeswoman Liz Hill said the department doesn't go into details about specific schools' finances, but noted that penalties are laid out in loan agreements and failure to repay can affect schools' accreditation and ability to borrow in the future. Ms. Hill said schools "must be creditworthy to access this program," and not every school that applies is approved.

Morehouse College and Texas Southern University were rated as investment-grade by Moody's Investors Service at the time they got loans, but others were speculative bets.

"The federal government needs to be a little more particular in their lending," said Marybeth Gasman, professor of higher education and director of the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions at the University of Pennsylvania. "You should not be able to borrow anything unless you have a plan to pay it back.

The Southern Poverty Lie—Oops, “Law”—Center Faces Its Worst-Ever PR Crisis

The “Southern Poverty Lie Center”—that’s what late, lamented VDARE.com friend and talk-radio host Terry (“the Prisoner of South-Central”) Anderson called it. Officially—and to the journalists—it’s the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) founded and led by Morris Seligman Dees, Jr. But, in perhaps the SPLC’s worst-ever public relations crisis, the Respectable Right, and even some on the Left, are voicing disillusion. (There was even a critical twitter storm, #SPLCExposed, on Monday).

(Though of Scottish lineage and a Baptist, Dees’s obviously Jewish middle name—derived from the name of a merchant in Montgomery, AL whom Dees’s grandfather had admired—has been handy for fundraising mailers sent by his outfit to gullible Jews. This may have been what worked on my late father, who stubbornly donated to it for years and had its penny-ante “Certificate Of Merit” displayed on his wall, to my disgust.)

Here at VDARE.com, we call it the “$PLC,” as recognition that its nation-breaking agendas are also cover for its real concern: fund-raising and nest-feathering.

The Social Contract’s book-length anthology of exposés of the SPLC

Informed critiques of the $PLC are becoming thick on the ground. Of course, as VDARE.com’s own James Fulford just pointed out, they too often accept the $PLC-propagated myth that it was ever a “Civil Rights Stalwart, as POLITICO headlined its critique. But they still inflict damage. Thus recently the Respectable Right Federalist’s Stella Morabito rattled off 12 Ways The Southern Poverty Law Center Is A Scam To Profit From Hate-Mongering [May 17, 2017], including:
  1. SPLC Uses Emotion-Laden Images to Spread Innuendo
  2. The FBI Stopped Citing SPLC as a Resource
  1. The Center Is Advertising For New Revenue-Raisers
  2. SPLC Propaganda Seems to Encourage Hoax Hate Crimes

And on March 19, 2017 the centrist Real Clear Politics posted The Hate Group That Incited the Middlebury Melee by Washington Bureau Chief Carl M. Cannon, referring to Charles Murray’s $PLC-provoked experience in February at Middlebury College, but noting frankly how far the $PLC has moved from “civil rights”:

But with the Ku Klux Klan literally out of business, how was the SPLC able to frighten people into still donating? That’s where the AEI’s Charles Murray reenters our story, along with many other mainstream conservative groups. Scaring the bejesus out of people requires new bogeymen, and lots of them.

Heidi Beirich of the Southern Poverty Lie Center

In recent years, you can find yourself on the SPLC’s “hate map” if you haven’t gotten fully aboard on gay marriage — or the Democratic Party’s immigration views. In other words, the Dees group classifies individuals and organizations as purveyors of “hate” for holding the same view on marriage espoused by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton until mid-2012.

Over the years, there’ve also been some on the Left who’ve noticed the $PLC’s cynical antics. One example: King of the Hate Business: With haters on the wane, what will the hate-seekers do?, by Alexander Cockburn, in The Nation (of all places) on April 29, 2009.

Another: the letter from Atlanta civil-rights attorney Stephen Bright to dean of the University of Alabama Law School Kenneth Randall, politely declining a request that he speak at a law-school event honoring Morris Dees. Bright crisply summed up Dees as “a con man and fraud.” And the letter was cc’d to Dees—oh, to have been a fly on the wall in Dees’s office when he opened that envelope! [The Southern Poverty Business Model, by Ken Silverstein, Harper’s Magazine Blog, November 2, 2007]

Today, eminences in the $PLC’s (anti-) hate directorate are the power pair of Mark Potok (right) and Heidi Beirich, with evident ambitions to expel hate from Earth, if not the Universe.

Articulate curmudgeon Fred Reed nailed them with his comment that “Liberals believe that we should all love one another, and hate those who don’t.” [Social Justice Warriors and Bubonic Plague: Is There a Difference?, FredOnEverything, March 30, 2017]

That the challenge facing $PLC’s dynamic duo might be daunting was suggested by Mark Steyn in a speech to the Federalist Society, recalling his tangles with “human-rights” officialdom/busybodies in several Canadian jurisdictions concerning items in his 2006 book America Alone: The End of the World As We Know It:

The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal regards it as an entirely feasible project to eradicate quote “hate” from society, even though hate is a human emotion that has beat in the human heart for all eternity.

[November 21, 2008; transcribed from the video by PN. Emphasis added]

Samuel Huntington made the same point more broadly in his 1997 The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order:

[There] is the ubiquity of conflict. It is human to hate. For self-definition and motivation people need enemies: competitors in business, rivals in achievement, opponents in politics. They naturally distrust and see as threats those who are different and have the capability to harm them.

[p. 130, Emphasis added.]

In other words, politics ain’t beanbag. It naturally generates strong emotions. The $PLC just seeks to pathologize one side.

How do the $PLC’s vigilantes against hatred and “haters” actually operate? A few years ago, I assembled some language regarding this that I’ve used in Letters-To-The-Editor, online comments, and the like:

The SPLC’s modus operandi is simplicity itself: Using its own criteria, which have a trigger level of essentially zero, SPLC names Person P a “racist.” Person P publishes an article in Journal X. Then if Person Q also publishes in Journal X, Person Q is a “racist” too. It’s an open-and-shut case of guilt by association.

In recent years, SPLC has been tarring as “hate groups” organizations advocating systematic enforcement of our immigration laws and reduced legal immigration — e.g., the Federation for American Immigration Reform [FAIR]. Poll after poll shows that huge majorities of Americans agree with FAIR, but the SPLC would put this vast swath of public policy, with its enormous implications for our national future, out of bounds for public discussion.

Meanwhile the SPLC shows no heartburn over MEChA (Spanish acronym for the Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan, with Aztlan the mythical ancestral home of the Aztecs), which has chapters at hundreds of American colleges and high schools nationwide. MEChA’s governing document, El Plan Espiritual de Aztlán, includes such ethnocentrisms as “We are a bronze people with a bronze culture.” And the group’s motto is “Por La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada” (“For our Race, everything, outside our Race, nothing”). That’s apparently too brazen to attract SPLC’s attention as it sleuths everywhere for “white supremacists.”

Here’s an example, except that in this case it’s two organizations tied together by one writer, instead of the reverse. (Bonus: It involves VDARE.com!)

The writer is John Miano, a sporadic contributor here over the years; in fact, with his Ten Principles of Immigration, he won VDARE.com’s Fall 2001 contest for best advice to the president on immigration policy. John, whom I know slightly, is a computer programmer who quit that career to become a lawyer fighting the H-1B visa program that immiserates so many of America’s native-born technology workers. And, since 2008, he’s been a Fellow of the Center for Immigration Studies [CIS].

Of John’s 22 VDARE.com writings (count ’em, working backwards: here, here, and here), naturally most have to do with H-1B abuses (e.g. San Jose Mercury News’s H1-B Driveby [January 4, 2008] and Fred Barnes’s New Math On H-1B Visas [May 30, 2008]) or related corporate malfeasance (e.g. Obscenities, Chaos, H1-Bs—And High Reported Earnings: My Year With AIG [October 14, 2008] and The Real Reason Microsoft Moved Jobs To Canada – A Manager’s Convenience [July 26, 2007]).

Well, were any of the 22 about the racial and/or ethnocultural issues that reflexively provoke Point-And-Splutter hysteria at the $PLC? Here, here, and here are the three that come closest, and they don’t come close—check them out for yourself. (And all three were posted at least a year after the “indictment” to be described next.)

Nevertheless, $PLC’s Ms. Beirich, as part of what she evidently thought was an open-and-shut indictment of the Center for Immigration Studies, wrote:

Some at CIS have also written for a nativist hate site, VDARE.com, which is named after Virginia Dare, said to be the first English child born in the New World. They include CIS Fellow John Miano and board member Carol Iannone.

[The Nativist Lobby: Three Faces of Intolerance, January 31, 2009]

Clearly, what John Miano had actually written at VDARE.com wasn’t important. (The same is true for Carol Iannone; see her single contribution here at this link.) Indeed, there’s no hint that Beirich even glanced at any of those 22 pieces. Their sole significance for her “case” against CIS was their mere existence at VDARE.com—which Beirich labeled variously a “hate site,” a “hate website,” a “racist anti-immigration website,” in addition to a “nativist hate site.”

So our late friend Terry Anderson was perhaps a bit off when he dubbed $PLC the “Southern Poverty Lie Center.” It doesn’t necessarily lie, exactly. Instead it typically makes a hullabaloo over facts and ideas that it instinctively dislikes and then demonstrates an unwillingness—or perhaps inability—to think about them on their merits.

Let’s re-dub the outfit the “Southern Point & Splutter Center.”

MS-13 Gangsters Arrested in Connection to Long Island Slayings – No, Not Those Slayings, These Slayings!

MS-13 gangsters arrested in connection to Long Island slayings
www.yahoo.com

The feds had arrested three MS-13 gang members suspected in the brutal killings of four young men on Long Island in April, according to a report. Investigators believe that the brutal El Salvadorian gang was behind the slayings because the bodies appeared cut by machete — the group’s weapon of choice, Newsday said. Investigators say gang-bangers Alexis Hernandez, Santis Leonel Ortiz-Flores and Omar Antonio Villata are responsible for the deaths of Justin Llivicura, 16, Jorge Tigre, 18, Jefferson Villalobos, 18, and Michael Lopes Benegas, 20 — whose beaten, lifeless bodies were discovered in Suffolk County park. The trio was arrested Thursday by the FBI’s Long Island Gang Task Force. Hernandez...

Breaking News: PC Republican “Reporter” Katherine “Kat” Timp Almost Got Something Right on Race!

Did you know that it’s “racist” to use hoses to fight fires?

Or to water lawns and plants?

Or wash cars?

That’s what black supremacist member of the King County Council, aka the “Clowncil,” Larry Gossett, has implied. Gossett asserted that it would be racist to hose down the human feces and urine that crazed thugs leave on the sidewalk every day near the King County Courthouse.
Councilmember Larry Gossett said he didn’t like the idea of power-washing the sidewalks because it brought back images of the use of hoses against civil-rights activists [sic] [Judges complain it’s unsafe, unsanitary outside King County Courthouse in Seattle, by Christine Clarridge, Seattle Times, July 12, 2017.]
But PC Republican writer Katherine “Kat” Timp takes a different tack.

“Now, I’m not trying to diminish the struggles of civil-rights activists, but Gossett’s concern here is nothing short of insane. I mean, seriously — who even thinks of such a thing?...

“But social-justice alarmism can do a great job of turning the clearly uncontroversial into an outrage, and often at the expense of basic logic and practicality. It’s not that all social-justice activism is bad, of course. It’s great to be nice, and it’s great to be sensitive, but an obsession with social justice and political correctness can make people’s brains start to malfunction — and I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a better example of that than this.”
If Timpf had a spine, she would diminish the struggles of civil-rights activists, and would argue that all social-justice activism is bad.

Civil rights activists, up to and including Martin Luther King Jr., have for over 60 years been dedicated to destroying America and to politically disenfranchising, pauperizing, and physically destroying the white race. And “social-justice activism” isn’t even a euphemism for communism.

But this is Kat Timp we’re talking about here, who is writing for National Review, where only the declawed are permitted to wrote about race.

As I’ve advised Republican writers Jonah Goldberg and Michelle Malkin in the past, if you’re going to talk about race, talk about race. Otherwise, shut up.

I’ve seen Timpf parrot Marxist talking points on crime on Fox News, where she is a regular guest on The Greg Gutfeld Show, helping to drag Gutfeld down to her level, and make the show unwatchable.

She apparently claims to be a comic, though I can’t recall her ever saying anything funny, as opposed to saying something while wearing a cheeky expression.

Seattle-Area Councilman: Hosing Poop-Covered Sidewalks Might Be Racially Insensitive
By Katherine Timpf

National Review

A councilman [sic] in Seattle is reportedly opposed to hosing sidewalks that reek of excrement near a local courthouse because he fears that it might be racially insensitive.

[He didn't double-qualify his statement. That's Timpf's own cowardice speaking.]

No, this is not a joke.

The area surrounding King County Superior Court includes a homeless shelter and other social-services organizations and has become an “unsanitary and potentially frightening” scene — one “that reeks of urine and excrement” — according to an article in the Seattle Times. Desperate for help with the disgusting environment, two of the court’s judges have asked the city to please power-wash the poop-covered sidewalks. That seems like a pretty reasonable request, but apparently, one councilman is worried that doing so might be a form of microaggression.

According to the Times, Councilmember Larry Gossett “said he didn’t like the idea of power-washing the sidewalks because it brought back images of the use of hoses against civil-rights activists.”

Now, I’m not trying to diminish the struggles of civil-rights activists, but Gossett’s concern here is nothing short of insane. I mean, seriously — who even thinks of such a thing? I see people power-washing bodily fluids off of the streets of New York City (including streets outside of courthouses) all the time, and I have not once seen any of them being called racist. To be fair, this city does still smell terrible, so the power-washing plan might not be the perfect solution on practical grounds, but at least it’s a start. What else are you going to do — not wash them? Because I really, really reject the idea that leaving sidewalks covered with human bodily waste is the less offensive move in this (or any) situation.

Anyone over the age of three knows that if you see poop somewhere, it’s supposed to be cleaned up. What’s more, most little kids could probably also tell you that said clean-up is supposed to involve water. In fact, before this, I would have told you that this is probably the least controversial opinion in human history.

But social-justice alarmism can do a great job of turning the clearly uncontroversial into an outrage, and often at the expense of basic logic and practicality. It’s not that all social-justice activism is bad, of course. It’s great to be nice, and it’s great to be sensitive, but an obsession with social justice and political correctness can make people’s brains start to malfunction — and I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a better example of that than this.

This story was originally covered in a post on the Daily Caller.

Editor’s Note: This article originally referred to Larry Gossett as a city councilman. In fact, he is a member of the King County Council.

“In 2006, Officer Haney began tracking the movements of individuals affiliated with a worldwide Islamic organization known as Tablighi Jamaat, which is part of the global Deobandi movement. He continued working on the case in 2011 and 2012 while he was assigned to one of the National Targeting Center’s most specialized units, known as the Advanced Targeting Team.

“By March 2012, according to a government document previously obtained by Judicial Watch, the case had drawn the “concern” of the State Department and DHS-CRCL, because the Obama administration believed the case unfairly focused on Muslims. DHS argued that since Tablighi Jamaat was not a designated terrorist organization, CBP officers could possibly be violating the civil rights and privacy rights of foreign nationals who were affiliated with the group.
